When Ben was researching neighborhoods in the DC metro area, he found Hyattsville and fell in love with this quiet and beautiful neighborhood. He liked it so much that he decided to purchase his first home in the Arts District Hyattsville. He loves the walkability of the community, the friendly nature of the neighbors, and all of the great local restaurants, boutique shops, and all of the new breweries and distilleries popping up all over Hyattsville and the nearby communities in Prince George’s County.
Here are some of Ben’s favorite haunts:
What’s your go-to food spot to take your friends and family?
One of the things I love most about Hyattsville is the abundance of local restaurants. I love taking family and friends to Franklins Restaurant because their menu is seasonal and they have a great beer and wine selection.
What’s the best breakfast or brunch spot in the area?
Hands down it’s Busboys and Poets Hyattsville!
Where’s the best shopping in the town? Are there any good boutiques?
Are there any good hikes or bike trails?
There are so many local trails in Hyattsville like the Trolley Trail and the trails of the Anacostia Tributary Trail System.
Local Brews/Distilleries. So many to choose from, but if you had to choose one: what’s your favorite local brewery?
A new local favorite is Streetcar 82!
Caffeine Rush: Best coffee spot?
Vigilante Coffee for its hip local vibe and amazing home roasted coffee and local pastries.
Have a sweet tooth? What’s the best bakery in town?
Sugar Vault Desserts & Bakery is becoming a local institution frequented by our neighbors but also people from neighboring communities. Cupcakes are their signature but they also make amazing cookies and cakes. They sell out almost every day so it’s best to get in early!
What are fun weekend activities to do in the neighborhood? Favorite Farmers Markets?
Thursday is the Riverdale Town Center Farmers Market. There is usually a local band playing and amazing produce, coffee, and baked goods to name just a few.
Are there any cool historical spots worth visiting?
Riversdale House Museum to learn about early U.S. history along with women’s, African American, and Maryland history. The house is quite the architectural gem!
What’s your favorite park to stroll through?
I love walking or jogging to Lake Artemesia to stroll around the beautiful lake trails and there is also Magruder Park where there is always some soccer game going on!
Any other noteworthy places that you want to give a shout-out to?
Let your inner artist come out at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. They offer lots of classes throughout the year in screen printing, paper making, book binding, letterpress and other arts.
